Hi there! My name is Renan Lima and I’m from Brazil. I’ve always been passionate about games, not only playing but also making them! Every time I watched a new show, read a book or comics, I’ve always imagined how awesome that story would be in a video game, or how cool would be to control those powerful characters! That led me, when I was still a kid, to play around with tools such as RPG Maker, The Games Factory, and even M.U.G.E.N.!

Such passion never ceased: as everyone said that I should learn how to code to make games, I decided to do my undergrad in Computer Engineering at UFSCar (Brazil). After that, I worked for a while in a Brazilian indie game company (iMax Games), just to find out that there is much more to games than coding and art. I discovered design! I realized that I needed to understand better the intricate elements of the game world and its rules, in order to create those amazing experiences that I’ve always dreamed of. Because of that, I went all the way to the US, where I got my Master’s Degree in Level Design in the Guildhall at Southern Methodist University.

Back in Brazil, I worked for over a year as a Game Programmer in Tapps Games, where I did learn a lot not only about game dev but also about how larger companies run in general. After that, I joined Gilp Studio to collaborate as Level Designer in the development of Areia. Now that we are about to finish the project, I'm heading towards new challenges, eager to work on games that push the edges of our industry, exploring new emotions with innovative concepts and mechanics!

  • I’ve recently found out that, if you are in United States, it is actually cheaper to fly to Brazil, take your Wisdom Teeth, and then go back - yes, I had to go through that pain T^T

  • Back in the day, when I was younger, I used to draw comics about my friends and me with super powers, defeating the evils of the world

  • I have a weird tendency to like games in which the characters are animals… don’t ask me why, I don’t know!

  • Although I really love 2D platformers and fighting games, the indie scenario has brought to me a new passion for experimental games and the idea of pushing games as a new art form
